Ladies Who Bike and Brunch in Andersonville

Sunday was the February Ladies Who Bike and Brunch get together. We met at Andersonville's Ann Sather's restaurant, home of the fabulously decadent swedish sweet rolls (pictured above).
Even though we'd had a blizzard just a few days before, the main streets had been cleared and I decided that if I stuck to them,  I'd be alright. So I headed up Clark street on my Oma. In the video below,  you can see me and my bike in the windows.

What a pleasure! There was hardly a car on the street. It was a slow, peaceful ride,  and it felt like I was taking a leisurely bike ride in the country.
When I arrived, the bike parking was a bit of a problem, but it didn't stop the Ladies Who Bike and Brunch.

Eighteen of us turned out for the February brunch. Lovely, interesting ladies, one and all.

Too many to list!

Dottie of LGRAB blog on the left, Suzanne, Shelby, Sara of This Little Bike of Mine blog, and Danielle.

Afterwards, Some of us visited Women and Children First, a fantastic independent bookstore. Then Dottie and I went to The Brown Elephant thrift store where I found a jeans jacket (for the spring, obviously).

In the winter, being stuck in the same place can get boring, so I'm so glad for an excuse to get out and meet other women who bike. Looking forward to the next brunch!

Trisha, It was delicious and the brunch was super fun. Maybe you could time a visit with one of the brunches so you could join in the fun? It was so nice to meet you it would be great to see you again!

The women of Chicago sure know how to spend a lovely day with the inclusion of their bicycles. So nice; I'm going to have to work on the women of Nashua, NH :)

SM - It's been fun. It's worth the effort of trying to get folks together! What kind of cycling community do you have in your area?

Thanks for asking J. I certainly do not see women riding the types of lovely bicycles around the city that you and Dottie ride. The biking community in my town consists mostly of rodies (which is quite popular here) and Mountain Biking. We have a MTB organization called New England Mountain Association (NEMBA), which puts together group rides for trail riding. I've attended a few, but it's not my cup of tea, because I like to stop and smell the flowers and take photos along the way. And these rides are mostly about building skills and there is no real social interaction. It's a great organization, but I prefer to MTB alone or with close friends. When it comes to road biking with friends it's mainly about riding for excercise and not attending/planning social activities. So, it looks like I will have to try to change the attitude about cycling here in Southern NH and encourage/plan social rides & get togethers rather than purely for excercise and going home shortly thereafter.

SM- I think it's a worthy endeavor to try to build something like that up. I know Chicago is big and Dottie organized it and she has a huge following, but even if you manage to make one "stop and smell the flowers" friend, it would be worth it, in my opinion. What about trying to connect with others through your local bike store?

Love the video of your riding! Captures the experience perfectly.

I'm looking forward to the next brunch already. And our museum get together! :)

Thanks Dottie,
I'm looking forward to both, too!

J, I plan to give it a shot and will start with friends and co-workers to see how receptive people are towards riding their bikes to destinations for social events vs using their car. Stay tuned :).

Ok, that photo of the cinnamon roll is completely unfair! I need one this instant! Looks like everyone had a great time though.

Ms.Ding- Do you need a copy of that photo or actual cinnamon roll? Because I can help you with the one, but not the other :)
